In the fall of 2020, we ran a baking contest on Facebook with the group, Subtle Asian Cooking. Through this contest, we discovered many talented home bakers and have collaborated with a few of them to launch kits for our new AAPI collection! Baking has been a wonderful way for us to celebrate our culture. We hope these kits can do the same for you.

Hi, I’m Emily! I was born and raised in the Boston area, but my parents are immigrants from Hong Kong. I was always a kid who looked forward to dessert – whether it was egg tarts after a dim sum lunch, or a soft-serve cone after a dinner of burgers and fries. Nowadays, as an adult, there’s no need to wait for the end of a meal. I usually start my mornings with whatever I’ve baked up the day before and a cup of black coffee!
Like many others, staying at home during the COVID-19 pandemic has given me lots of time to bake. My baking is often inspired by my cultural upbringing. As an Asian-American, I’ve been influenced by both cultures for my entire life. It only makes sense that my baking reflects that as well. I love learning about different flavors and techniques when making recipes from both American and Asian cuisine. I find joy in celebrating my identity and community through baking. In a time when hatred and fear are so rampant, this joy is especially important to have and to share with others.
