In the fall of 2020, we ran a baking contest on Facebook with the group, Subtle Asian Cooking. Through this contest, we discovered many talented home bakers and have collaborated with a few of them to launch kits for our new AAPI collection! Baking has been a wonderful way for us to celebrate our culture. We hope these kits can do the same for you.
Hey there! My name’s Shi Han and I’m a baking hobbyist! Growing up in a Chinese household, tea was always a staple in the house. Desserts always pair nicely with tea since the sweetness and richness is complemented with tea’s bitter edge.
My passion for baking all started when my Mom randomly brought home a baking book from a book sale she passed by. We tried out a really basic chocolate chip cookie recipe from there, but instead of using ½ a TEASPOON of baking powder we accidentally put in ½ a CUP! This was obviously a disaster and we had to make another batch, but I found this process to be so intriguing and fun! There are so many variables in baking, and I love seeing how the change in a particular ratio can affect the entire dessert. I absolutely love working with and trying out new flavours to make unique, one-of-a-kind desserts!
